The Storefront Theater by Matthew Mazzotta turns a disused storefront in Lyons, Nebraska into an open-air community theatre. Judges described it as "poetic and powerful" and said: "Architecture is for the community and this is the project that serves the community the most."
It won the Rebirth Project of the Year and was selected from eight architecture category winners to be named the overall Architecture Project of the Year at Dezeen Awards 2018.
Judges described the Lascaux International Centre for Cave Art by Casson Mann as "very clever, innovative and beautiful". It won the Civic and Cultural Interior of the Year category and was named the overall Interiors Project of the Year.
Windvogel by Studio Roosegaarde is an energy-generating, light-emitting kite. Judges described the project as "innovative, emotional and functional". The project won the Lighting Design of the Year category as well as being named the overall Design Project of the Year.
Dezeen Awards received 3,689 entries from 91 countries in its inaugural year, making it one of the most popular architecture, interiors and design awards programmes in the world.
